The Land of Bears is another production in the series in which I explore my relationship to the political situation in Slovakia—and at the same time, myself within its context. I decided that the next step would be to examine my relationship to the present through the dreams I have.
I discovered that even in dreams I cannot escape reality. Dreams are not merely a translation of reality—they are its mirror, but exaggerated, amplified, distorted. They are filled with violence, threat, and anxiety. They are an expression of unspoken desires as well as fears.
I began to systematically record my dreams. Recurring motifs appeared: the body that transforms. Anger that cannot be named. And bears.
The production explores how both political and personal reality infiltrate dreams. How censorship, violence, frustration, power, and powerlessness function. What does it mean to be the one who is threatened? And what does it mean to be the one who threatens?
Home is where they shoot you.
